Abstract
Objective To explore the association between polymorphism of apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene and coronary heart disease with type 2 diabetes patients. Methods A hospital-based 1∶1 matched case-control study was conducted, in which 100 pairs of subjects were recruited. Polymorphism of ApoE gene was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). Results The e4 allele of ApoE gene was associated with development of coronary heart disease with type 2 diabetes patients, the e4 allele of ApoE gene was more frequent among the patients of coronary heart disease with type 2 diabetes patients. Compared with type 2 diabetes patients without the e4 allele of ApoE gene, the OR with 95% CI of type 2 diabetes patients with the e4 allele of ApoE gene was 2.800 (1.360~5.764). After adjusting for diabetes duration, the result still showed that the association between the e4 allele of ApoE gene and coronary heart disease with type 2 diabetes patients was statistically significant. No associations were observed between the e2 and e3 alleles of ApoE gene and development of coronary heart disease with type 2 diabetes patients. Conclusions e4 allele of ApoE gene is associated with higher risk for the development of coronary heart disease with type 2 diabetes patients.
