Abstract
Objective: To explore the value of intima-media thickness quantification technology in evaluating the vascular pathology of carotid artery in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: A total of 50 cases were divided into three groups: diabetes group (n=20), diabetes with hypertension group (n=20) and normal control group (n= 10). We measured the maximum IMT by conventional ultrasonography and mean IMT by quantification technology. Results: The maximum IMT and mean IMT had no significant difference between right and left carotids in three groups. There were no significant difference in the maximum IMT between diabetes with hypertension and diabetes group . The mean IMT of carotid artery in diabetes with hypertension group were thicker than that in diabetes group. Conclusion: Of two parameters, mean IMT is superior to the maximum IMT in evaluating the vascular pathology of carotid artery in diabetes patients, Ultrasonic IMT quantification technology can be used to early reflect the vascular changes of diabetes and diabetes with hypertensioa
