Abstract

In order to investigate the allelopathy of hot pepper, the effects of aqueous extracts from different parts of hot pepper on seed germination of radish, cucumber,Chinese cabbage and tomato were determined by means of bioassay in laboratory. The allelopathic potential was represented by allelopathy response indexes(RI) at germination stage. The influences of aqueous extracts of hot pepper on vegetable seed germination varied with different donor parts, extract concentrations and receptors. The seed germination of Chinese cabbage and radish was improved by aqueous extract of whole hot pepper plant with concentration of 0.01 g/ml,and the seed germination of radish was improved by aqueous extract of root of hot pepper with concentration of 0.01 g/ml.However,the seed germination of four kinds of vegetable was inhibited by aqueous extracts from whole plant, root, stem and leaf of hot pepper when the concentration was 0.02 g/ml or over. And the higher the concentration of aqueous extracts, the stronger inhibition on vegetable seed germination. The allelopathical effect order of aqueous extracts from different parts of hop pepper on seed germination was leafstemplantroot. The allelopathical sensitivity to all donor extracts was different among the tested vegetables, with tomato and Chinese cabbage being more sensitive.
