Abstract
Technological improvement of silage quality of a given silage crop can be achieved by lowering the water activity by wilting to a higher dry matter(DM) content, the use of silage additives and by more intensive machine treatment leading to smaller particles or a more lacerated crop Present silage making systems depend to a different extent on these three different actions Examples of different silage making systems are given and interactions between type of additive and type of harvesting machine discussed
