Abstract

Objective To evaluate the CT and MRI in detecting hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia(FNH). MethodsData of the CT and MRI of 13 patients with hepatic FNH confirmed pathologically were reviewed. Results Of 10 patients underwent CT,nine showed hypodensity on plain scanning,in which, much lower density was found in six cases,a slightly higher density was found in one.On enhancement scanning, the lesions showed intense enhancement on arterial phase, even or uneven. On portal vein phase, the lesions showed higher or isodense.Delayed enhancement in central scars was seen in six cases.MRI was done for 11 patients,on plain scanning, the lesions showed hypointense on T1WI and hyperintense on T2WI;on enhancement, the lesions showed intense enhancement on arterial phase, except for central scars. On portal vein phase, the lesions showed slight hyper-or isointense. On delayed phase, the lesions showed isointense.A central scar demonstrated delayed enhancement in nine cases. Conclusion CT and MRI are specific and accurate in detecting hepatic FNH.A combination of the two methods can improve the diagnostic accuracy.
