Abstract
Objective: To study the expression of chromogranin, synaptophysin and neuron-specific enolase in nonfunctioning islet cell tumors. Methods: Fourteen paraffin-embedded specimens with nonfunctioning islet tumors were recruited from Jan 1988 to Jun 2001. The S-P method was used for the detection of chromogranin, synaptophysin and neuron-specific enolase. Results: There were positive expression of chromogranin, synaptophysin and neuron-specific enolase in 12, 8 and 12 cases saperatively. Conclusion: Non-functioning islet cell tumor can synthesize and secrete more than one hormone; CG,Syn and NSE may be ideal markers, those markers were altogether detected to promote the sensitivity.
