Abstract
Confucius concerned himself about neither theology nor metaphysics but moral and political conduct. The core of his theory holds that a perfect society can be achieved only through self-controlled personal behavior and adjusting social relationship. His ideal society is characterized by 'harmony', which occupies an ultimate position in his theory of moral and political conduct. It is safe to say that Confucius' theory begins with 'ren' (or 'love'), and ends with 'harmony'. 'Harmony' covers the meaning of teleology, axiology and methodology. However, these concepts are overlapping to some extent. This article intends to evaluate the position of 'harmony' in the Analects of Confucius by analyzing Confucian thoughts.
