Application of modified Alvarado scoring system in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in children

Abstract

Objective To study the application of the modified Alvarado scoring system in childhood acute appendicitis. Methods From June 2001 to June 2006, the data of 208 cases with acute appendicitis received appendectomy were evaluated by modified Alvarado scoring system. And it's scoring result and pathological diagnosis were analyzed retrospectively. Results The scores were correlated positively with pathological grades (r=0.510,P0.01). Conclusion It shows that modified Alvarado scoring system is useful to make the diagnosis and decision for surgical treatment in childhood acute appendicitis.
