China's Contemporary Historical Literature: Towards the Context of Globalization

Creation on historical events towards the new context of ″globalization″ has not only flourished in novel, drama, film and television, but also provided a new opportunity for reflecting national history and opening dialogues on globalization. At the forum on historical events held in this background, a breakthrough was made in the wide-ranging discussion, from the viewpoint of history, of historical reality and artistic reality coupled with the phenomena of reversing ″historical cases″ and such propositions as the conception of historical theme, modeled reality and invented reality. While affirming the prosperous achievements in film and TV production, the experts put forward the new principle underlying the moral bottom line in terms of the vulgarization in the said production. At the same time, the writers' standpoints of narration and their artistic imagination were emphasized, and the possibility to begin historical narration from the perspective of narratology was explored. As theoretical criticism was far behind artistic creation, the experts appealed for new criticism and its practice, with both writers and critics expecting criticism from multiple points of view. All the discussions have shown that globalization not only exists as a kind of background to artistic production, but makes an impact on the artistic practice of creating historical works.
