Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of simvastatin of serum levels of matrix metalloprotease(MMP-1、MMP-9) in patients with acute coronary syndromes(ACS). Methods 60 patients with acute coronary syndrome were studied, which were randomly divided into two groups:Simvastatin treatment group and regular treatment group. At the same time, 30 cases of age matched healthy individuals were selected as a control. The serum level of MMP-1 and MMP-9 were compared among all groups. Results There was a significant difference in serum level of MMP-1and MMP-9 among ACS group and control group. The serum level of MMP-1 and MMP-9 were different between simvastatin treatment group and regular treatment group after treatment. Conclusion Plaque disruption may be related to the increased serum level of MMP-1 and MMP29 and the decreased serum level of TIMP21. Simvastatin can decrease serum level of MMP-1and MMP-9 in patients with ACS, and it may have a beneficial effect on steadying the plaque.
