Abstract
Obiective To investigate the changing patterns of hone mineral density and the incidence of osteoporosis in Urumqi residents. Methods BMD values of lumber spine and proximal femur were determined by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in 2711 residents aged 20 to 80. Results The peak values of BMD were detected in 20-29 age group and declined gradually afterwards. The female BMD showed a sharp decline in 50-59 age group while the male did not. The incidence rate of osteoporosis after 40 years old was 28. 3% (male) and 45. 2% (female) , respectively. Significant difference was found between male and female in age group of 50-59 (P0. 05) . Conclusions This study provides a subjective and effective evidence for diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis in Urumqi region.
