Expression of hippocampal nuclear factor-κB in rats with severe acute pancreatitis accompanied with brain injury

Abstract

Objective To observe hippocampal nuclear factor kappa B p65(NF-κB p65) expression in rats with severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) and its relationship with brain injury.MethodsThe SAP model was induced by retrograde injection of 5% sodium taurocholate into biliopancreatic duct in rats.Nissle stain was used to evaluate the degree of the brain injury.NF-κB p65 was assayed by immunohistochemistry and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Results The half quantity of NF-κB p65 mRNA at the 3rd,6th and 12th hour in SAP group and NS group was 0.63±0.05 vs. 0.11±0.01,1.05±0.06 vs.0.12±0.01,and 0.92±0.05 vs. 0.08±0.01,respectively(P0.05).The injury of hippocampal neurons was much severer in SAP 3,6,12 h groups than that in NS groups.Conclusion NF-κB p65 accelerates the brain injury in SAP rats,and affects its procession mainly during its earlier and middle periods.
