Abstract
Objective To investigate the role of p14ARF,mdm2 and p53 protein in the process of carcinogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma;analyze the relationship among the expression and clinical stage, lymph node metastasis, prognosis,et al.Methods The expression of p14ARF,mdm2 and p53 protein were detected by immunohistochemical method in 78 paraffin-embedded tissues, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)(n=58),chronic inflammation of nasopharyngeal epithelium(CINE)(n=20).Results(1)p14ARF,mdm2,p53 positive rates in NPC,CINE were found to be 31.0%,41.4%,65.5% and 100%,0,0,respectively.The expression of p14ARF protein were significantly degraded and mdm2,p53protein were significantly elevated in NPC when compared with CINE(P0.05).(2)Spearman correlation analysis showed that the expression of p14ARF,mdm2,p53 had no correlation in NPC(P0.05).(3)The expression of p14ARF,mdm2 and p53 had no relationship with patients' lymph node metastasis,stage,gender,age(P0.05).(4)Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the expression of mdm2 was significantly correlated with survival time in NPC(P0.05).p14ARF,p53 expression were irrelevant with the survival time(P0.05).Conclusion p14ARF,mdm2 and p53 may be involved in the occurrence of NPC,and promote the process of normal nasopharyngeal cells to cancer. The expression of mdm2 was correlated with survival time, and can be used for predicting the prognosis of patients after radiotherapy.
