Abstract

Traditional information retrieval technology is mainly based on keyword matching and has little semantic inferring ability. Moreover it does not provide semantic guidance for users. So information retrieval system may miss some information that users really want and return some information that users don't want.Ontology is used for information retrieval technology. The ability of ontology for semantic expression is analyzed and a model of information retrieval system based on ontology(MIRSO) is proposed.MIRSO can give semantic guidance for users and translate user's query conditions into concepts and relationships in domain ontology so that users' request expression can match web information precisely.According experimental results, this method can increase the precision of information retrieval.
