Develop Folk Customs in the Ancient Capital of Southern Song Dynasty and Build Hangzhou into the Leisure Capital

Southern Song dynasty made its capital in Hangzhou and lasted about 150 years during which period of time a great number of people from the Central Plains moved southwards.Folk customs of various places melted into the local tradition and formed rich and colourful customary culture with the characteristics of the region of rivers and lakes.This is precious resource in building Hangzhou into a modern leisure capital and developing leisure tourism.There are lots of festival and customary remains of Southern Song dynasty in Hai'er Lane(Clay Kids Lane),which was so named because of the sale of Clay Kids, a gift sold in the Praying-for-cleverness Festival observed on the seventh of the seventh lunar month.At the east end of the Lane is Beiwa which was not only the grandest public place of amusement in the capital of Southern Song dynasty having 13 theatres,but also the cradle of the Chinese operas and novels,among which the famous Outlaws in the Marsh originated from the Story of Song Jiang,the talk of the town at that time.Hai'er Lane ought to become an urban leisure street with the characteristics of folk customs of the ancient capital so as to enable tourists to enjoy the cultural scenery of the ancient capital of Southern Song dynasty after touring around the West Lake.By so doing Hangzhou will demonstrate its tourist charm as a famous cultural and landscape(city) in an all round way.
