Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical curative efficacy of ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy(PMCT) for hepatic malignancies.Totally 87 lesions in 53 patients with middle or small, primary or metastatic liver cancer were treated by ultrasound-guided PMCT,with different microwave power and working time based on tumor size and the patient's tolerance.Short term curative effect was evaluated through ultrasound angiography 15 days after treatment and survival rates were observed in 1 year and 2 years. After treatment, ultrasound angiography showed there was no abnormal enhancement in the internal area of 61 lesions in differen periods, which meant the tumor completely inactivated. The ablation rate was 70.1%(61/87).In the other 26 lesions(26/87,29.9%) it showed nodular enhancement in early period on the edge or in the internal area, suggesting residual tumor.Follow up for 2 years,3 patients were lost.1-year survival rate was 79.2%(42/53),and 2-year survival rate was 49.1%(26/53).In conclusion,Water cooling cycle PMCT treating middle or small, primary or metastatic liver cancer can achieve complete tumor necrosis in most cases. It is an effective, rapid, simple and repeatable treatment with good effect and little trauma.
