Abstract

The sensilla of antennae, mouthparts, legs, terminal abdomen and compound eyes of the male adult of Leptocybe invasa w ere observed w ith scanning electron microscope to define the external morphological characteristics of its sensilla, and the differences betw een the sensilla of the female and male w ere compared. The result show ed 8 kinds of antennal sensilla, namely Bhm bristles, trichoid sensilla, chaeticum sensilla, basiconic sensilla, auriform sensilla, placoid sensilla, zonated sensilla and mammilliformia sensilla,w ere observed. There w ere 3 kinds of sensilla on the mouthparts, viz Bhm bristles, trichoid sensilla and chaeticum sensilla. Bhm bristles, trichoid sensilla, chaeticum sensilla and basiconic sensilla w ere observed on the legs of the males. Furthermore, there w ere antenna cleaners on the legs of the male. Bhm bristles, trichoid sensilla and chaeticum sensilla w ere found on the terminal abdomen. On the compound eyes only basiconic sensilla w ere found. The biological function of the sensilla found on the males w as discussed.
