Abstract

The chromogenic reaction between the new reagent dibromo-p-methylsulfonazo and bismuth was studied. In 0.16mol/L HClO4 medium, bismuth reacts with the reagent to form a blue complex which exhibits an absorption maxima at 634nm with a molar absorptivity of 2.41×104 L/ mol cm , Beer's law is obeyed for 0~35 g of bismuth in 25mL of solution. Most of common co-existing ions caused no interferences in the determination of bismuth. The results obtained by this method in the analysis of some samples of drugs was checked by the EDTA method and consistant results were obtained.
