Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of the modified method for disinfection of oxygen moisture bottles and the time of their continuous utilization. Methods The whole process of the clinical observation was divided into two stages. In the first stage, the bottles in the observation group were rinsed with sterile distilled water as humidification fluid and disinfected with modified disinfection method. The bottles in the control group were filled with cold boiled water as humidification fluid and sterilized with the routine disinfection method. The results on the third day in both groups were compared and analyzed statistically. In the second stage,50 samples of humidification fluid were given pure oxygen persistently and the bacteria monitor was conducted daily. The contamination rates were tested from the first day to the seventh day. Results In the first stage, the acceptance rate of bacteria monitor in the bottles after 3 days of their continuous use was significant higher in the observation group than that in the control group(P0.05).In the second stage, the difference in bacterial count of the humidification fluid on the first and seventh day after full exposure to persistent pure oxygen was significant(P0.05).Conclusion The modified disinfection method and regular replacement of oxygen moisture bottles can reduce opportunities of infection in patients given oxygen. The moisture bottle should be replaced 6 days after their continuous use to control the growth of bacteria against nosocomial infection.
