A Study on the Spatial Differences of Urbanization Level in China since 2000——An Analysis with the Administrative Region as the Unit

Abstract

Since China entered a rapid development period of the fourth wave of urbanization in 2000,some new characteristics have emerged in the regional pattern of urbanization.Based on a defining of the connotation of urbanization,this paper selects three most fundamental indicators,i.e.population urbanization rate,economy urbanization rate and space urbanization rate,to form a synthesis index for comprehensive measurement of the urbanization levels of China's cities in 2000 and 2008 and,using the arcgis tools,analyzes their spatial distribution and changes.Then the spatial differences in the comprehensive urbanization levels are revealed though the Theil index.
