Abstract

Objective: To analyze the relationship between abnormal cytogenetic and spontaneous abortions. Methods: Chromosomal karyotype studies were performed on routinely cultured peripheral blood lymphocytes.Slides were processed for G-banding with Trypsin-Giemsa by standard techniques.Rusults:There were 16 abnormal karyotypes in 204 couples with spontaneous abortions(15 cases were balanced translocations,1 case was robertsonian translocation),the rate of abnormal karyotypes was 3.82%,much higher than that of common population(P0.01).There were 39 chromosome heteromorphisms in 204 couples with spontaneous abortions, the rate was 9.56%.Respectively compared with that on the cases with normal chromosomes, abortion time on the cases with abnormal karyotypes and with chromosome heteromorphisms was significantly high {abortion times:(2.94±0.85) vs(1.05±1.39),(2.76±1.45) vs(1.05±1.39),P0.01,respectively}.Conclusions:The abnormality of chromosome was one of reasons of spontaneous abortions and the effect of chromosome heteromorphism was not be ignored. It is necessary to analyse chromosomal karyotype and genetic counselling in couples with spontaneous abortions.
