Treatment of diabetic gastroparesis by acupuncture therapy: A multi-center randomized controlled trial

Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture therapy against diabetic gastroparesis(DGP).Methods A total of 200 subjects were randomly divided into acupuncture group and medication group,100 cases in each group.Acupuncture group was treated by needling Zusanli(ST36) and medication group was treated with oral Domperidone,with a course of 3 weeks.The therapeutic effects were observed.Results The clinical efficacy was better in the acupuncture group than in the medication group(P0.01),especially in the relief of epigastric fullness(P0.01);in both groups,the clinical efficacy was similar among the different patterns of diabetic gastroparesis(P0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture is quite effective for diabetic gastroparesis,particularly for epigastric fullness.
