On Commercial Development and Position of Merchant in the Song Dynasty

The Song Dynasty(920—1279) was a period of the development of economy,technology and culture which came to a peak in the Chinese history,especially the acceleration of the development of commercial economy.The traditional policy of physiocracy and restriction of business showed more flexibility in the Song Dynasty,the commercial development of the Song Dynasty was an important reason for the economic boom,which was also closely related to the supported by government.The Song Dynasty has adopted the policy of placing equal stress on agriculture and business,and implemented efficient management over trade,by which the position of merchant had been raised,therefore,the merchants made their country rich by paying taxes,and it also laid a foundation of the emergence of bud of capitalism of the Ming Dynasty.
