Abstract
Among the 251 Number One Scholars in the Tang Dynasty, there were only ten (comprising only 3.98 percent) nominated as Prime Ministers. Compared with the Song Dynasty, the number of these persons who were nominated as Prime Ministers was less and the period they were in the saddle was much shorter. And their moral quality and outstanding achievements were quite different from one another in the Tang Dynasty, but not so the Number One Scholars as Prime Ministers in the Song Dynasty. Furthermore, half of the ten Number One Scholars in the Tang Dynasty died an unnatural death, which was an unimaginable phenomenon in other feudal dynasties in China.
