Abstract
Traditionally Chinese language teaching to the native-speakers pays a lot attention to the character training through which one can acquire Chinese language with the combinations of the form, the phone and the meaning of the character. Practice has proved this teaching model is suitable for Chinese children and we have gained great success. But it is not suitable for the foreigners who learn Chinese as a second language. With theoretical foundation and practical support, we think TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) should emphasize on phrases (including temporary phrase) teaching.
