Abstract

Objective To investigate the association between insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome(MS) and Ultrasound diagnosis of fatty liver. Method Fifty subjects with NAFLD and 56 controls were enrolled for the study. All subjects underwent ultrasound examinations, meanwhile waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting glucose, fasting insulin, serum lipids and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) values as an index used to quantify insulin resistance were measured and analyzed. Logistic regression was analyzed to predict independent risk factors of NAFLD. Results The prevalence of MS in NAFLD group was obviously higher than in controls group(48. 0% VS 5. 4%,P 0. 001),and HOMA-IR values in NAFLD group was higher than that of controls group(2. 65 ±1. 35 VS 1. 45 ± 1. 02,P 0. 001). In a logistic regression analysis, age, waist circumference and HOMA-IR were independently associated with the presence of NAFLD. Conclusion NAFLD was closely associated with MS and insulin resistance was a very strong predictor of NAFLD.
