Abstract

Objective To evaluate the application value of the nocturnal penile tumescence test ( NPT) in the etiological diagnosis of erectile dysfunction after trauma. Methods The erectile function of 52 ED patients with pelvic fracture were investigated by the Nocturnal Penile Tumescence Test of Electrobioimpedance Volumetric Assessment, and the data were compared with combined test of them. Results Of 52 patients, there were 16 patients with psychogenic ED according to the NPT test, and 18 patients psychogenic ED according to the combined test. There was no significant difference in positive rate of psychogenic ED between the NPT and the combined test (P 0.05 ). Conclusion The NPT test is simple and practical, and its diagnostic accuracy is comparable to that of the combined test. The NPT test should be used as an examination of choice for the primary etiological diagnosis in ED after trauma.
