Fractal characteristics of urban-rural settlement spatial distribution in mountain hills and plains areas

The paper analyzed the spatial structure of urban and rural settlement in hilly area and plain regions using the correlation dimension model of the urban system,taking the different regional units in Henan as cases.The results showed that the rural settlement has the same fractal characteristic with the spatial distribution of urban settlement;the urban-rural settlement spatial accessibility in mountain hills is lower than plain cities;the crow dimension of urban-rural settlement spatial distribution concentrates around 1,which showed the overall balance of spatial distribution in Henan province.Moreover,the paper proposed some suggestions including spatial optimization of central urban and rural settlement,cancelling township and merging town,and appropriate planning scheme formulated by new rural community construction combining regional urban and rural settlement distribution characteristics.
