Study on mood of depression and anxiety in epilepsy

Objective:To detect the mood of depression and anxiety in epileptic patients and the related factors. Method:Eighty adult patients who had nonstandard diagnosis and treatment were evaluated by Zung self-rating anxiety scale(SAS) and Zung self-rating depression scale(SDS). Results: Epileptic patients with the mood of depression and anxiety were 45% and 25% respectively.Multi factor regiession analysis showed that the longer the course of disease,the severer are the symptoms of depression and anxiety.The male patients were easier to suffer from anxiety,while the rural patients were easier to suffer from depression. Conclusion:These findings indicate that the patients with epilepsy often accompany with the symptoms of depression and anxiety.The gender,course of disease,seizure severity and living place might be the risk factors.
