Abstract

Objective To study the efficacy and safety of paliperidone and risperidone in the treatment of schizophrenia. Methods 60 schizophrenia patients were divided into 2 groups, each of 30 cases. One group was given paliperidone and the other group was given risperidone for 8 weeks.Evaluate the efficacy and side effects with Positive and negative symptom scale (PANSS) and treatment emergent symptom scale (TESS).Results The significant effective rate of the paliperidone group was 80.0%,and the risperidone group was 83.3%,and the difference was statistically significant (P0.05).The total score of PANSS of the 2 groups decreased significantly since the treatment of second weeks (P0.01 or P0.05),but there was no significant difference in the efficacy between 2 groups (P0.05).Risperidone has more side effects in extrapyramidal system than Paliperidon, and the difference was statistically significant (P0.01).Conclusion The efficacy of paliperidone is as well as risperidone in the treatment of schizophrenia.
