Abstract

In order to develop high density powder metallurgy forming technology,a new concept in powder forming technology that combining high velocity compaction with warm compaction was presented in the present paper.A warm powder high velocity compaction(simplified as WHVC) forming equipment which adopts gravitational potential energy was designed and developed.By means of such device,a preliminary study on WHVC was carried out.The results show that the average green densities of the 316 stainless powder, the pure iron powder, the copper powder and the aluminium powder are 7.47,7.63,8.61 and 2.70 g/cm3,respectively.Their densities are much higher than those prepared by conventional high velocity compaction. This result demonstrates that the newly designed equipment can meet the demand of WHVC and the new forming method is superior to the conventional high velocity compaction. The formation mechanism of the WHVC was also discussed.
