Abstract

Objective To investigate the distribution of 4a/b VNTR polymorphism of the endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS) gene in Chinese Han population. Methods 4a/b VNTR polymorphism of the eNOS gene of 240 unrelated healthy individuals were studied by means of polymerase chain reaction(PCR) analysis. Results All subjects were genotyped for eNOS gene;the frequencies of the aa,ab,bb genotypes were 0.0080,0.1250 and 0.8670 respectively. In the Han nationality, the frequency of the aa,ab genotypes were lower than that in Korean and Italy(P0.05).Conclusion These results suggest that there are significant differences in 4a/b VNTR polymorphism of eNOS gene between the Chinese Han nationality and other ethnic populations.
