Abstract
Coefficient of entropy method was introduced to built a TOPSIS method,which was applied to evaluate the water quality of Shaxi River,based on the demand of environmental quality standards for surface water(GB3838-2002).The result was accordance with that obtained with the attribute recognition model generally,showing the feasibility of TOPSIS method in assessing water environment.The advantages of the TOPSIS method were the visualization and the flexibility in the ordering of the various evaluation units and the introduction of the coefficient of entropy method avoided the uncertainty of the subjective weight,which were in favour of the progress of the water evaluation.
