Abstract

The experiments were carried out on a 1.6 L automobile fueled with ethanol-gasoline blends from different base gasoline to study its performance. The results show that compared with the lead-free gasoline, the performances improve or keep the same when the automobile is fueled with ethanol-gasoline blend from pure gasoline without MTBE,but the performances deteriorate when the automobile is fueled with the blend from lead-free gasoline added with MTBE.In the latter case, the oxygen content in the fuel is too high to meet the demand of the electronic control system. It is recommended when using ethanol-gasoline blend in the automobile, the gasoline in the blend should be the pure gasoline without any oxygenants such as MTBE.
