Abstract

In order to seek a solution to inhibit pre-harvest sprouting and cultivate vigorous seedling in wheat,a study on the effect of ABA on the germination of seeds of a white-grain wheat cutivar,Ningmai 11,and on the growth of wheat seedlings after seed-soaking with different concentration ABA solution was performed. The results showed that ABA(1~100 mg/L) could inhibit seed germination significantly, and the inhibition would become stronger with higher concentration ABA.80~100 mg/L ABA could effectively postpone germination of white-grain wheat for at least 2 days;As a result of ABA treatment to seeds, the content of chlorophyll in the leaves of 5-days-old seedling increased, and the superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity enhanced, the malondialdehyde(MDA) content decreased.Meanwhile, the ascorbic acid(AsA),proline, soluble sacchride and soluble protein content also kept at higher level than that of control. It suggests that ABA could improve the stress-resistance of wheat seedling.
