Review of radar target discrimination in ballistic missile defense system

Abstract

Target discrimination is a key technique in ballistic missile defense system,and the development of target discrimination in missile defense system is reviewed.Firstly,the technical features of target discrimination in ballistic missile defense system are analyzed,considering both the flying characteristic of ballistic missile and the configuration of missile defense system.Secondly,the technical frame of radar target discrimination in American missile defense system is reviewed systematically,and the development of radar target discrimination is summarized utilizing the trajectory characteristic,structure characteristic,precession characteristic and re-entry characteristic of ballistic missile,respectively.Finally,some suggestions for developing target discrimination in missile defense system are provided.
