Abstract

The effect of plant growth regulators, matrices, seasons and cutting segments on cutting propagation of balm(Melissa officinalis) was studied. The results showed that both of the stem segments and the tip segments could be used for cuttings propagation with high rooting rate and many long rootlets were achieved in winter and in spring, though the cuttings in winter was better than the cuttings in spring in rooting.Vermiculite, pearlite and the mixture of vermiculite and pearlite were beneficial to rooting growth of balm cuttings. The best cutting matrix was vermiculite,in which the root was the longest.NAA could prompt rooting of the cuttings and the best concentration was 150mg.L1 in spring. The cuttings dipped in water could be used for balm cutting propagation in winter and in spring.
