Abstract

A new sawfly species from Hunan Province, China is described:Taxonus hunanensis Wei et Huang sp. nov.. Type specimens are deposited in the Insect Collections of Central South University of Forestry Technology, Changsha, Hunan, China. Taxonus hunanensis Wei et Huang, sp. nov. (Figs. 1~5) Body length 12.5~14.5 mm in female and 11.0~11.5 mm in male. This new species belongs to aterritinus group of the genus as the body black, the antenna slender with the third segment longer than the fourth segment, hind wing in female with the cells Rs and M closed, and hind wing with a marginal vein in male. It is similar to Taxonus aterritinus Wei, but differs from the latter in antenna 2.5 times as long as head breadth, the 3rd segment only 1.1 times as long as the 4th one, the basal and middle part of flagellum reddish-brown, head in dorsal view shorter than eye, mesopleuron and mesoscutellum densely and coarsely punctured, the abdominal tergites 2-8 distinctly microsculptured, labrum and mandible largely dark reddish, the base of stigma pale, penis valve broad at apex without a neck (in aterritinus the antenna entirely black and 1.9 times as long as head breadth, the 3rd segment 1.5 times as long as the 4th one, head in dorsal view longer than eye, mesopleuron and mesoscutellum finely sculptured without distinct punctures, the abdominal tergites 2-8 shining without distinct microsculptures, labrum and mandible entirely black, the stigma black without pale base, penis valve distinctly narrower toward apex and with a distinct neck). Holotype:♀, Mt. Mufushan (1 400 m), Pingjiang, Hunan, 08-Ⅴ-2001, WEI Mei-cai. Paratypes:21♀♀, Mt. Mufushan (1 400 m), Pingjiang, Hunan, 08-Ⅴ-2001, WEI Mei-cai; 12♂♂, Mt. Mufushan (1 400 m), Pingjiang, Hunan, 08-Ⅴ-2001, WEI Mei-cai; 2♀♀, Taoyuandong, Yanling, Hunan, 23-Ⅳ-1999, WEI Mei-cai, Xiao Wei; 7♂♂, Taoyuandong, Yanling, Hunan, 23-Ⅳ-1999, WEI Mei-cai; 20♀♀51♂♂, Mt.
