Abstract
According to the experimentation criterion, the paper studies the law of influences of degree of compaction and expansion rate on bearing strength(California Bearing Ratio,CBR) of expansive soil and lime treated expansive soil. It is found that the CBR value of expansive soil varies with the expansion rate and compaction effort. The paper indicates that the CBR value decreased with the decrease of degree of compaction, and decreased with the increase of expansion rate. It is concluded that the degree of compaction must be slightly low when the lime treated expansive soil is used in embankment filling, which is helpful for the long-term stability of the embankment.
