The Application of Item Response Theory in the Quality Evaluation of Large-scale Screening Test

Abstract

Item Response Theory(IRT) has many properties superior to Classical Test Theory(CTT) in the quality evaluation of large-scale screening test and has been widely used at home and abroad.Based on the analysis procedure and requirements of norm-referenced test,the quality of practice English test for 3rd grade senior high school students was analyzed with IRT and advantageous properties of IRT was empirically confirmed again: item parameters of IRT models are not sample or test-dependent;and the evaluation of the levels of the tested samples is independent of the test items.IRT is highly evaluated and will be applied more and more widely in educational test in basic education.
