Effect of combined rosuvastatin and benazepril on pulse pressure in elderly patients with isolated systolic hypertension

Objective To study the effect of combined rosuvastatin and benazepril on pulse pressure(PP)in elderly patients with isolated systolic hypertension(ISH).Methods One hundred and eight elderly ISH patients with normal serum cholesterol were randomly divided into control group(n=52)and treatment group(n=56).Patients in treatment group were treated with oral benazepril(10mg/d)plus rosuvastatin(10mg/d).Their blood pressure was measured every two weeks for 24week.Results The systolic and diastolic blood pressure and PP were significantly lower in treatment and control groups at 4,8and 24hafter treatment than before treatment(P 0.05).The diastolic blood pressure was significantly higher whereas the PP was significantly lower in treatment group than in control group at 8and 24hafter treatment than before treatment(P0.05,P0.01).Conclusion Combined rosuvastatin and benazepril can decrease the risk of cardio-cerebral events in elderly ISH patients by improving their PP.
