Comparison of liquid-based cytology and conventional cytology smears in detecting cervical squamous cell lesions

Objective To compare the value of liquid-based cytology and conventional cytology smears in the detection of cervical squamous cell lesions.Methods From January 2008 to January 2012,1 880 women were detected by cervical liquid-based cytology and conventional cytology smear screening.With the gold standard of colposcopic and biopsy findings,positive cases were selected as the controls.The results were statistically analyzed to assess the diagnostic value of liquid-based cytology for cervical lesions.Results 282 cases who had received liquid-based cytologic detection were found to have ASCUS and above lesions,the positive detection rate of was 15.0%;and 84 cases,pap Ⅱ B level and above lesions,4.5%.The positive detection rate by liquid-based cytology was significantly higher than that of conventional cytology smears,with statistically significant difference(P0.05).With the gold standard of colposcopic and histopathological findings,the coincidence rate of cervical liquid-based cytology screening and conventional cytology smear screening was 73.4% and 53.6% respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).Conclusion Liquid-based cytology screening for cervical squamous cell lesions is significantly better than conventional cytology smears.
