Observations on the Efficacy of Scalp Point-to-point Acupuncture plus Rehabilitation Training in Treating Post-stroke Shoulder-hand Syndrome

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of scalp point-to-point acupuncture plus rehabilitation training in treating post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome.Methods Eighty patients with post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups,40 cases each.The treatment group received scalp point-to-point acupuncture plus rehabilitation training and the control group,rehabilitation training alone.The severity of pains in the affected limb and upper limb function were assessed using the VAS and Carroll UEFT respectively and shoulder and hand skin temperature was measured in the two groups before and after treatment.The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups.Results The total efficacy rate was 100%in the treatment group and 95.0%in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups(P0.01).There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the VAS score and the Carroll UEFT score in the affected limb in the two groups(P0.01).There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the VAS score and the Carroll UEFT score in the affected limb between the treatment and control groups(P0.01).There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in shoulder and hand skin temperature differences between the healthy and affected sides in the two groups(P0.01).Conclusion Scalp point-to-point acupuncture plus rehabilitation training is an effective way to treat post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome.
