Abstract

Aim To investigate the method and effect of percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP) in osteoporotic fractures of vertebral body. Methods 65 cases(78 vertebrae) with osteoporotic verebral compression fractures were treated with PKP.The clinical effects were evaluated by the vertebral anterior height, the Cobb angle, and the charges of visual analogue scale before and after the operation. Results All cases were successfully treated, without serious postoperative complication. The vertebral anterior height improved from(22.17±3.31)mm preoperatively to(34.40±2.30)mm postoperatively(P0.05).The Cobb angle decreased from(20.52±2.78)° preoperatively to(10.48±2.68)°postoperatively(P0.05).Visual analogue scale decreased from(6.97±0.61)preoperatively to(2.32±0.38)postoperatively(P0.05).Cement leakage rate was 7.7%.Conclusion PKP is a minimally invasive, effective and safe procedure that provides pain relief and stabilization of spinal stability and improves patients' quality of life.
