Abstract

Some pollution problems could be approved through comparison and analysis of distribution data of relevant persistent organic pollutants(POPs) such as DDT(dichloro-diphenyl-trichlorethane),HCB(hexachlorobenzene),PCBs(polychlorinated biphenyls),HCH(hexachlorocyclohexane) in 250 Quaternary samples including topsoil, rive rain mud, beach and neritic sediments in Jiangsu Province.Firstly, there spread widely the POPs residues represented by DDT and HCB in Quaternary coastal sediments and DDT and HCB pollutants in local soil, river environments as well as slight PCBs in beach sediments yet.Secondly, the distribution of POPs in Quaternary sediments in costal area was uneven and there was obvious tendency which POPs content and its perniciousness decrease progressively in the costal sediments from land soils to marine sands.Thirdly, the eco-environmental quality and utilization of land resources were affected by POPs residues and contaminated in the costal areas of Jiangsu Province.
