Abstract
Objective To analyze the efficacy of adenoidectomy in the treatment of children with secretory otitis media(SOM). Methods Fifty-four patients with SOM who underwent adenoidectomy received postoperative check-up once every half a month to observe the efficacy. Results The abnormal shapes of tympanic membrane, including poor transmission and lower activity, improved obviously. After two weeks of operation, tympanogram of the 54cases(type B 38 cases, type C 16cases)changed to type C in 35 cases,to type A in 19 cases, and one month after surgery,53 presented as type A,and one as type C.Hearing of all the sick children returned to normal. Conclusion Adenoidectomy is effective in the treatment of secretory otitis media in children, the timing of surgery and surgical skill are two important factors influencing the outcome.
