Factor decomposition model of energy intensity change in China

Abstract

In recent years,energy consumption has increased environmental pollution seriously.The research on discipline and reason of the variation of energy intensity can provide theoretical support for making policy of energy-saving and emission reduction.The discipline and reason of energy intensity changes in China was discussed with the complete factor decomposition methods.Results show that the increase of energy utility efficiency of the second industry promotes the decrease of energy intensity in China during 1986-2002.Industry structure change has little effect on energy intensity.Since 2003 the rapid development of high energy-consumption industry has been the main reason of increase of energy intensity.Therefore,adjusting and restricting the development of high energy-consumption industry,optimizing industry structure and speeding up the technology progress of saving energy in the key industry is the effective way to decrease energy intensity and advance energy utility efficiency.
