Abstract

The combined process of trickling filter and constructed wetland was used to treat the rural domestic sewage, and the contaminant removal efficiency of the combined process and the contributing rates of each process for contaminant removal were investigated. The full-scale experimental data show that under the steady running state, the contributing rates for removal of COD,ammonia nitrogen, total nitrogen, total phosphorus are 74.5%,79.2%,33.8% and 47.5% respectively in the trickling filter, and 25.5%,20.8%,66.2% and 52.5% respectively in the constructed wetland. The study indicates that the trickling filter can effectively complete the organic substance degradation and nitration, and the constructed wetland system can further remove the nutriments such as nitrogen and phosphorus. The combined process can effectively remove the contaminants in rural domestic sewage.
