Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of serum procaleitonin(PCT) determination for risk evaluation in patients with severe pneumonia. Methods The levels of seltndm PCT,high sensitive C - reactive protein(hs - CRP),white blood cell count and temperature were measured in 54 patients with severe pneumonia(severe group),30 cases of mild to moderate pneumonia(non - severe group),35 cases except the infection diseases(non - infection group) and 35normal healthy persons(healthy group). The differences of the levels of them among the groups were compared. Results There Was obvious difference between severe group and the other three groups in the level of serum PCT(P 0.05),but there Was no difference between severe group and non ~ severe group in the levels of hs - CRP and WBC(P 0.05 ).Conclusion Serum PCT may play all important role in aged patients with severe pneumonia. The level of serum PCT Call be regarded as all auxiliary diagnosis index for patients with severe pneumonia.
