Suicidal Ideation and Influence of Psychological Factors among Freshmen in a Medical College from 2003 to 2007

[Objective]To learn the suicidal ideation and its dangerous psychological factors among medical freshman,and advance related preventive methods.[Methods]From 2003 to 2007,some freshman of 2003-2007 grades in Weifang medical university were investigated with SCL-90 and Beck scale for suicide ideation.Psychological factors associated with suicidal ideation were analyzed by binary logistic regression.[Results]1 154 freshman were investigated,and 27 of them had suicidal ideation.The positive ratio was 2.33%.The positive ratio of boys and girls was 3.37% and 1.45%(P0.05).The positive ratio of 2003,2004,2005,2006,2007 grades was 1.28%,2.34%,3.32%,3.37% and 1.63% respectively(P0.05).Except Phonic anxiety,the other factors' score of freshmen who have suicidal ideation is higher than normal students(somatization,obsessive-compulisive,interpersonal sensitivity,depression,anxiety,paranoid,ideation and psychoticism).The logistic regression result indicates that the psychological risk factor of suicidal ideation was depression and interpersonal sensitivity.OR is 2.24,11.42.[Conclusion]The positive ratio of suicidal ideation in medical freshmen was low.The psychological health of students who has suicidal ideation was lower than normal students.
